Inspired by the dramatic style of Italian painter Caravaggio, this still life scene is steeped in mystery and the macabre. With a nod to science, alchemy, magic or all of the above, I hoped to evoke a feeling of an age when the unknown lurked around every corner, and discovery happened in the dark of night.
